Gather the whole family and bundle on up to Ski Callaghan for a whole host of adventures!
- Alexander Falls Snowshoe Paradise
- Intro to XC Skiing
- Just out to sight-see (& maybe do some sliding!)
- Furry family members
Start at the Alexander Falls Touring Centre, rent snowshoes from the Access Callaghan rental shop, and head on out into our beautiful, ungroomed old growth forests for a wilderness adventure, ending up at a frozen waterfall – how magical is that! Start this adventure on the Finger Lakes snowshoe trail, head on straight past the ‘Express’ turnoff until you reach the ‘Alexander Falls Explorer’ signposted turnoff. Head on down through a beautiful forest and keep an eye out for animal tracks through the snow! When you reach another junction, keep right and you will reach the magnificent frozen waterfall! On your way back, either retrace your tracks the whole way, or opt for the shortcut ‘Express’ route (it’s a little bit steeper!) back to the start of the Finger Lakes trail.
Looking to try cross-country skiing as a family? Or is it time to introduce the young’uns to your favourite sport? There are plenty of flat and gentle, beautifully groomed trails around the two Ski Callaghan bases. Either start at the Alexander Falls Touring Centre to rent skis and head right out of the door onto easy trails, past trees and creeks, and on into the doggy park (Porter’s Glide, Around the World) for gentle laps & magnificent views of the mountains & happy pups. Alternatively, start at the Brandywine Day Lodge & head out onto the super easy Neverland trail which takes you past the awe-inspiring Ski Jumps. End your adventure with some warming hot chocolate and hearty food back at the day lodge.
Are you looking for something different to do with your family, but aren’t quite feeling the snowshoe or ski vibes? Ski Callaghan is still the place for you! Head on into Whistler Olympic Park & check-out the venue of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games competitions in cross-country, biathlon, ski jumping and Nordic. You can see the Olympic cross-country stadium, the biathlon range and the majestic ski jumps. You may even feel inspired to try baseboarding (no prior experience necessary!) or to just make use of the free toboggans to get a few slips and slides in together on the toboggan hill. With the Brandywine Day Lodge offering tasty hot food and warming drinks you can re-fuel & warm up by the fire before heading home inspired and exhilarated.
The best part about Ski Callaghan is that we have a multitude of dog friendly trails! So if your family includes the four-legged kind, then don’t leave them out of your family time, bring them along for some well-deserved exercise and fresh air! Whether skiing or snowshoeing, there are plenty of on-leash & off-leash options to suit your family, including 9km round trip snowshoe adventures & a 19km roundtrip ski option! Take home tired & happy pooches after a day at Ski Callaghan!
